1-3 Dimethylamylamine is also called Methylhexaneamine. It is synthesized by reaction of 4-methylhexan-2-one with hydroxylammonium chloride to give the oxime, then it is reduced via sodium in ethanol. Its chemical formula is C7H17N and Mol. Mass is 115.22 g/mol. It is primarily used as a nasal decongestant because it acts as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI) and/or norepinephrine releasing agent (NRA). 1, 3-dimethylamylamine is sold as a supplement in combination with caffeine because it contains geranium oil. It is widely used in treatment of hypertrophied or hyperplasic oral tissues. 1, 3-dimethylamylamine is also taken as recreational drug in New Zealand.
